What inspired you to do the Brewlab course?
I was drawn to Brewlab by the quality of education for the price it required. Looking through American and German schools, I found quickly that you would not find an equal education for the price you would pay for Brewlab. Finding a school that is able to include practical brewing experience with theoretical learning is hands down a huge advantage for Brewlab.

What areas of the Brewlab course were most beneficial to you?
The Brewlab course as a whole allowed me to succeed in brewing, especially in the United States. The most beneficial area would most definitely be the opportunities Brewlab provided to experience quality analysis and utilise analytical equipment. This experience better prepared me for the production brewery atmosphere I would soon find myself in.

How beneficial did you find the practical side of the Brewlab course?
The practical side of the Brewlab course was something that nearly none of the brewing courses out there offered. To be able to not only work with local brewers in the northeast of England, but also brew your own recipes to enjoy or present in a local pub was an invigorating and exciting experience. You will not find an experience like it in any other brewing course offered.

Was there a part of the course you particularly liked/enjoyed?
My favourite part of the course would most definitely have to be two fold, the many trips we took as a class and the placements we were sent on. To be able to see the many different sides of brewing in England along with the captivating country side of the North is an opportunity that cannot be neglected. To say that Brewlab is all encompassing is an understatement.

What were your career steps following the course?
Immediately following Brewlab, I set out to find a job. I learned quickly that one must be flexible and open when pursuing a career in brewing. The first job I had was an assistant brewer where I put the skills I learned from Brewlab to use. After a short stint at that company, I was hired by a much larger distribution brewery in Pennsylvania where I continued to apply my education and eventually was given the opportunity to manage three different locations of the same company.

What is your position now?
Currently, I am Brewmaster of Lazarus Brewing Company in Austin, Texas. I never imagined that I would be in this position so quickly and Brewlab definitely helped immensely in getting me there.

Would you recommend the Brewlab?
In a word, definitely. And I did to my assistant brewer who completed the course in 2018!
