Important general information about our courses :
  • Our facilities and teaching have been assessed by the national higher educational assessment body and awarded the maximum 24 points out of 24, a rating judged to be of the highest standard when compared to all other institutions in the UK.
  • Our courses are taught in English.
  • Although some knowledge of maths and chemistry would be beneficial for the more detailed courses, we provide full student support and additional tuition is available to ensure everyone enjoys the learning experience.
  • All our lecturers and tutors are practitioners in the brewing industry.
  • Students are taught in small groups of up to 12. This makes sure the tutors can respond to the needs of each student as they follow an individual programme.

One day workshops
For craft brewers who want to develop their skills. These cover microbiology and small scale bottling.find out more




One to Five Day Course
BREWING SKILLS DEVELOPMENT COURSE FOR PRODUCTION PERSONNEL. This course is designed for brewery staff who are currently working in the daily production processes of micro breweries. find out more




Three day course
START UP BREWING. This is designed for the beginner or keen amateur considering opening their own microbrewery. The topics covered include choice of premises, recipe formulation, yeast analysis and basic marketing.find out more




Three week course
A CERTIFICATE in PRACTICAL BREWING. By the end of the course you will have the information you need to set up and operate an efficient micro brewing business. Discounts are available for those students who have attended the Start up Brewing course.find out more




Three month course
A DIPLOMA in BRITISH BREWING TECHNOLOGY. It is an all encompassing study of the key aspects of brewing techniques. Half of the course time is devoted to Laboratory and Practical brewing teaching sessions. There is also in depth learning of microscopy and beer flavour assessment. Successful students are awarded a Diploma in British Brewing Technology from the University of Sunderland (equivalent to NVQ level 3 qualification). This provides you with the opportunity to take further exams such as the internationally recognised Institute of Brewing & Distilling (IBD) Certificate in General Brewing.find out more
