This residential course is designed for those people who have decided to set up their own micro brewery.
You will learn the PRACTICAL brewing and laboratory skills required to make many different styles of quality beer. You will also be given in depth training of brewing theory and operations.
In the laboratory you will learn about microscopical techniques and how to implement these when building an in house quality control system.
Other topics include beer tasting, recipe formulation, marketing and yeast analysis.
You will undertake a series of work placements in different breweries, meet industry specialists and visit people who are operating micro breweries that they have established.
Students who are successful in passing the course assessments will be awarded a Certificate in Practical Brewing (equivalent to a University of Sunderland NVQ level 2 qualification). Some understanding of the brewing process, along with basic maths and chemistry, would be beneficial but not essential.
By the end of the course you will have acquired the practical experience to make a successful start to your career in the microbrewing industry. Many of our previous students now operate their own micro breweries and you can find out more about these in the case studies section.
