This course has 6 modules that encompass all the information and knowledge you will need to become a professional brewer.
The modules are:
- Industrial Placement
- Introduction to business start up, finance and marketing theory
- Microbiology
- Practical Brewing skills development
- Tasting
- Theory of brewing
At least half of the teaching time is devoted to laboratory and placement brewing sessions. You will have the opportunity to develop your own new
beer recipes in different styles and have them put on sale in local pubs.
The taste training will enable you to profile beers for character and identify faults.
You will also be given the opportunity to create the marketing materials to accompany the beers you make.
Students who are successful in passing the course assessments will be awarded a Brewlab Diploma in British Brewing Technology. This provides you with
the opportunity to take further exams such as the internationally recognised Institute of Brewing & Distilling (IBD) certificate in General Brewing.
Some understanding of the brewing process, along with basic maths and chemistry, would be beneficial but not essential.
The cost includes residential student accommodation for the duration of the course close to the Brewlab offices in Sunderland.
Many of our previous students now operate their own micro breweries and you can read about these in our case studies section.
