9 Week Course
Our longest and most comprehensive course gives you all the skills and knowledge you need to become a professional brewer.
The course is divided into 6 modules:
- Industrial Placement
- Introduction to business start up, finance and marketing theory
- Practical Brewing skills development
- Theory of brewing
To give you a confident grounding in the practical skills half the teaching time is devoted to laboratory and placement brewing sessions.
The taste training, which enables you to profile beers for character and identify faults, will help inform your decisions when developing recipes.
For many people one of the most interesting parts of the course is having the opportunity to develop new beer recipes in different styles and put them on sale in local pubs. As part of this you’ll also have the opportunity to create the marketing materials to accompany the beers you make.
Although it would be beneficial to have some understanding of the brewing process, along with basic maths and chemistry, it is not essential.
Students who are successful in passing the course assessments will be awarded a Brewlab Diploma in British Brewing Technology. This provides you with the opportunity to take further exams such as the internationally recognised Institute of Brewing & Distilling (IBD) certificate in General Brewing.
A huge number of our students from this course are now operating their own microbreweries – you can read about these in our case studies section.
There is a mid course break at the end of week 5.
The course fee is £8750. A £900.00 non-refundable deposit is required to secure a booking. The balance has to be paid two calendar months prior to the course start date. Price includes VAT. Accommodation is not included in the course fee but can be arranged on your behalf.
